Lower capacity and slower charging than OEM batteryJul 27, 2011

First the good news: this battery does work properly with the Dell mini 9, and it is noticeably lighter than Dell's OEM battery. Furthermore, it is considerably cheaper than Dell's battery.
What you might not realize, however, is that this battery has different specifications than the Dell's battery and will not run the computer as long on a single charge.
Immediately upon unwrapping this battery, I noticed that it felt lighter than the original that came with my computer. I also noticed that the capacity of the cells is written on the battery case as 2,400 mAh, whereas the catalog listing claimed 2,600 mAh. After installing this battery, I was able to view its characteristics through the computer's power statistics panel. The computer sees the battery as 12.3v x 1,935 mAh (23.8 Wh). Dell's OEM battery provided 32 Wh, so this battery has a capacity of 74% of that of the Dell battery.
In my tests I have achieved run times of about 2.5 hours using this battery. The Dell OEM battery used to run my computer for about 3.5 hours.
Another difference is that this battery charges very slowly. When charging with the computer running, it takes about 10 hours to charge from zero to a full charge. The Dell battery charges much faster. I don't have exact numbers but I remember it would charge fully in only a few hours even with the computer running. In both cases I used the OEM charger that came with my computer.
Conclusion: This battery is light and quite inexpensive (at the time of this writing it is 40% of the cost of the Dell OEM battery), but sacrifices run time and charging speed. The cost per hour of run time is better than for the Dell battery, but if you need that extra hour of run time then you will have to buy either the original Dell battery or buy a bulky, 6-cell battery.
